I Love Austin – About AustinTex.com
I love Austin. After graduating high school in Houston, Texas class of 1976, I had only one goal in life – to move to Austin. I guess you could say I achieved my life’s ambition. My graduation present from my parents was a set of luggage. I took the hint and it wasn’t long before I packed my bags for the University of Texas.
My first home in Austin was on the 27th floor of Dobie Mall smack dab between downtown Austin and the University of Texas. The dorm room came with a view of the capitol. The drinking age was 18 and you could buy $2 pitchers of beer in the Texas Union Tavern right on the UT campus. There was Barton Springs, Lake Travis and all the cosmic cowboys down at the Armadillo World Headquarters. Downtown Austin may have been deserted after dark, but you could climb the back fence at Barton Springs to take a midnight swim.
AFTER LIVING HERE MORE THAN 40 YEARS, I CAN STILL SAY I LOVE AUSTIN.
Austin has changed a lot in the 40 plus years I have lived here. But I can still say I love Austin with sincerity. One of the things I enjoy the most about working on this online insiders guide to Austin is seeing Austin through the eyes of someone visiting for the first time. It makes me fall in love with Austin all over again. And there is no place I would rather live. Austin, I love you so much!
