Iron Works Barbecue

Location:
100 Red River
Austin, TX

Iron Works BBQ is located inside the location of the Weigl Iron Works, a family operated ornamental iron works company operating in Austin during the 1930's through the 1970's. The building was converted into The Iron Works BBQ in 1978 and it was not long after that the State Historical Commission registered the property as a historical site. The weather vane located on the peak of the Iron Works BBQ roof was made by Lee Weigl in 1922 at the age of 13. Examples of Weigl Iron Works craftsmanship can be seen in the halls of the State Capital, Laguna Gloria Art Museum and many of the historical homes around Austin. Iron Works BBQ is located on Red River right around the corner for the convention center and stays busy during the March SXSW convention and other big conventions throughout the year.
